Almaria [v0.275] [JayWang Games]

August 27, 2024F95

“Unconscious at shore and with a severe case of amnesia, you are taken in and treated to the hospitality of a totally innocuous woman named Adria. There is no need to be cautious at all to earn your right to freedom. There is also no need to regain a semblance of self-identity through ‘your’ memories, the memories of others, to uncover secrets, and to explore the unknown world of infinite settings, relations, and possibilities that does not await you.”

v.0.275:
-Realized the game is actually fairly ugly in terms of animation/picture quality, and that there were a few bugs as well as mistakes in some dialogue, so:
1.) The game now has a resolution of 1104 x 624 in order to create a better full-screen experience for most computers if the window is (optionally) maximized.
2.) Re-captured, re-edited, and re-rendered every single animation scene available in the game to improve animation quality, add more scenes to each animation sequence, as well as to fit the new resolution and dialogue window:
-A total of 86 scene variations (7 animation sequences).
-Added first-person POV options to several animation sequences that would benefit from it.
3.) Re-captured, re-edited, and re-rendered (almost) every single character image to improve image quality, add shading, and make the images fit dialogue more aptly:
   -A total of ~200 images.
4.) Re-captured, re-edited, and re-rendered every character faceset to allow for more character expressions, improve quality, and to make facesets display dialogue emotions more befittingly:
-Also added new facesets for several characters that lacked facesets previously.
5.) Made changes to the design and appearance of a few characters, most notably that of the MC.
6.) Edited many typos/character misattributions/unfitting dialogue for several character interactions and scenes. Also added some dialogue to better suit some characters’ personalities.
7.) Edited every single map available so far to fit this new resolution.
8.) Fixed/“smoothed out” the intro transition sequence (previously, it was very slow, rough, and erratic).
9.) Fixed a bug in which animations might not disappear upon ending the animation sequence.
10.) Mouse functionality should now be usable for almost all game mechanics (except for moving around the map).
11.) Added a BGM for inn scenes to better fit the transition in mood. Added a few nuances in the BGS and map events for the “secret” to elicit a better atmosphere.
v.0.25:
-Added one “secret area”. This game will slowly and eventually become an “optional” horror(?) game via the implementation of “secret areas” throughout the world of Almaria.  “Secret areas” will be hinted by clues, suspicious environments, etc. and can only be accessed if a certain party member is within your battling party.
-Added some other hidden elements aside from the “secret area”. It is highly recommended that you die on purpose once somehow, and that you inspect certain Key Items…
-Implemented a basic affection system for the three available party members:
Adria, Sana, and Barbara. Affection is important to unlock certain scenes, interactions, and future content with the corresponding party member. Currently, it will naturally raise when winning a battle, or by interactions within an inn. Affection levels can be tracked in the Main Menu via “Status” -> “Variables” for the apt party member. Future recruitable party members will automatically have this system implemented.
-Implemented the “Interaction” system, accessible in the Main Menu. At certain affection levels, you can talk with the corresponding party member to learn more of their background and obtain helpful one-time rewards…
-Sana is now recruitable as a party member via her quest in the Pocket Dimension.
-Implemented “Growth Essence” currency, viewable in the main menu above the Gold icon. Growth essence is obtainable via battles and certain quests.
-Once Sana is recruited, a certain shopkeeper will appear in the Pocket Dimension who accepts Growth Essence as a currency.
-Added 5 “notable” characters:
  • Barbara (Dark Elf, recruitable as a party member)
  • Rose (A party member in the very far-off future, currently part of a side quest)
  • Daisy (Innkeeper)
  • Pandora (Boss Battle, part of Main Storyline)
  • Libra (Cameo as part of Main Storyline)
-Implemented 5 sizeable animation sequences of the following:
  • Titjob variation (Adria, 33 Affection Scene). Viewable in the inn.
  • Titjob variation (Barbara, 33 Affection Scene). Viewable in the inn.
  • Handjob (Sana, 33 Affection Scene). Viewable in the inn.
  • Titjob variation (Daisy, Quest Reward).
  • One leg-raised standing vaginal (Daisy, Quest Reward).
-Implemented the battle system, which consists of 4 major components:
  • Row Formation. Both your party members AND enemies will gain certain debuffs and buffs based on whether they are in the Front Row, Middle Row, or Back Row in battles. Your party’s row formation is adjustable in the Main Menu.
  • Party Limit Gauge. Both your party members AND enemies will gain increments in a “party limit gauge” when taking damage, inflicting damage, and upon death in battle. Each party member has a unique party limit skill, and limit skills are unique in that they do not consume the skill user’s turn (i.e. “Quick Cast”). Enemies, however, also have limit skills that can also change the battle towards their favor, so be careful…
  • TP Modes. Normal skills consume both TP and MP. However, TP can only be obtained by certain mechanisms and perks that are potentially unique to each party member (i.e. taking damage, dealing damage, healing, dealing status effects, etc.).
  • Weapons/skill ranges. Certain characters can only reach certain rows with their weapons/basic attacks/skills. The same applies for certain enemies.
-Implemented enemy battle AI that corresponds with their “expected intelligence”. For example, human enemies can “retreat” or “advance” their row formation when necessary. Meanwhile, wolves and roosters, for example, can only rudimentarily attack/buff/use gauge skills.
-Implemented enemy level scaling that is based on the average level of your entire party. Enemy scaling can be further adjusted in the “Options” menu.
-Interacting with certain objects on the map might grant you a new skill from now on. As of now, there is only one object that does so.
-Implemented a “scroll over” feature that helps to explain status effects BOTH in mid-battle and in the main menu screen. Simply place your mouse over the status ailment and the description of the status will pop up.
-Implemented captions that name certain NPCs, areas, interactables, etc. when you walk near them.
-Implemented item pop-ups that display when you obtain a new item and its icon.
-Implemented ~12 Quests (~8 “Main Quests”, ~4 “Side Quests”).
-Implemented the world map and boundaries that will be adjusted per future update. The only locations as of now are: Adria’s Mansion, Cockatrice Inn, Underground Forest/Ruins.
-Certain unique NPC interactions, dialogue, and even quests can only be obtained or progressed by having a certain party member in your battling party. This will apply to future party members, also.
-Certain quests will forcibly require you to place certain party members within your party, locking you into the party adjustment screen until you do so. This is to ensure and future-proof storyline consistency as more content is added per new area/party member.
-Implemented a help guide to explain all of these new implementations, etc. It can be accessed in the main menu via “Items” -> “Key Items” after completing the Intro Chapter.
-Implemented a very strange cheat room at the bottom right corner of the Pocket Dimension map.
-I doubt most of you have played my first release version, but older saves are not compatible at all due to these new features. I have included a save file that begins right after the end of the Intro Chapter as a quality of life service to the very few (if any) who played it.

Useful (or Useless?) Inquiries That People May Ask…  ̶o̶r̶ ̶M̶a̶y̶ ̶N̶e̶v̶e̶r̶ ̶A̶s̶k̶:

Q: Wait, why is there a horror tag now?
A: Hmm. Who knows? Don’t worry, it isn’t exactly horror unless you seek it out intentionally…
Q: The game takes a bit of a while to load…?
A: I sincerely apologize for that. However, this is the best method I have to encrypt precious RPGMaker MV mods and other assets that I painstakingly have either edited or created. Therefore, the encrypted file structure takes a bit for the game to boot up (~10ish seconds).
Q: Hey! Wait a minute! There aren’t any scenes for a few of the characters on the banner!
A: I plan to implement them in the future! However, for the sake of plot pertinence and storyline, I can’t exactly give these characters scenes yet…
Q:  … The battles are a bit too difficult! Also, I just want to jack off!
A: Then please visit the (very strange) cheat room indicated in the game tutorial. I also sincerely apologize if this is the case, as I tried my best to balance the combat system. Otherwise, it might be helpful to find out if there are missing party members you can still recruit…
Well, if you somehow read this block of regurgitated verbiage, then I salute you. I hope you enjoy, or have enjoyed this little project of mine. Stay safe and healthy my  dudes, especially
during these trying times. 🙂

*Mr. JayWang here (the developer). PLEASE do not download any other compressed version as there are likely to be graphical or audio bugs. This compressed version has been quickly perused/edited to remove such bugs, and seems to be fine now. However, please let me know if there are still any that I missed!
