Extra Credit [v0.4.8] [Blush Interactive]
Your lease ended. The rent was cheap. So you said yes to a stranger’s spare room.
Extra Credit is a first-person story game about moving in with a family you’ve never met: Elena, Marcus, and their two daughters, Sienna and Maya.
The plan is simple. Save up, get your own place, stay out of everyone’s way.
It doesn’t stay that simple.
v0.4.86 is out for Patreon Supporters!

Thank you for all the feedback on 0.4.75, here, on Patreon and on Discord. A lot of what’s below came from you.
New story
– Elena: Thin Walls (the middle of the night, shouting downstairs), The Sketchbook, Helping Hand.
– Maya: After Hours (two in the morning, the back door) and The Lecture Hall.
– Sienna: Payback, Supply Run and the House Party: a night out with her, a curb at two in the morning, and a dream the night after.
– Dana: a text, and coffee at Common Grounds. She has questions.
– Luna: the campus wood shop, and a vending machine that owes her a drink.
– A job: a Help Wanted ad on your laptop leads to Electro-Bin, the computer parts store downtown, and an interview with its manager, Catalina. Her story comes later.
– New faces at the party: Rem, the only sober one, with a bin bag and a plan, and Tash, Sienna’s friend with a cup in each hand, plus a house full of guests with their own names and things to say.
WARNING: !!!SPOILERS!!!
Sienna’s dream
– A fully animated scene you click through at your own pace: each position waits for you, and a click makes it go faster and harder.
– Her face, her voice and her body react to every moment.
– [V] switches to a second camera. Replay it any time from Memories on your phone.
You’ll find it by going to bed after the house party… if the night went well enough.
New in the house
– Peek through keyholes: at a locked door, press [F]. They sleep in their own beds now and do their own thing behind a locked door. Peek at the wrong moment and things may not go quietly.
– Showers: everyone has their shower times. The door’s locked, and you’ll hear the water.
– Faces: glowing heart eyes, floating hearts, a proper blush, blush lines, tongue out, drooling and eyes rolled back, for the big moments.
– People say things that fit what’s happened between you when you talk between scenes.
– The house is full of little things: shoes, photos, books, plants, Sienna’s toolbox, your trainers.
Work and money
– Electro-Bin: once you’re hired, work a shift at the register, in the stock room or at the repair bench: $15, and it takes that part of the day. Open Monday to Saturday.
– The laptop pays less now ($3 a job, three a day) and doesn’t take any time.
– Gifts: one a day per person.
Also new
– A town map: the front door opens a map of Oakhaven with a picture of each place. Hover a place to see what it is and who’s there.
– Electro-Bin and Common Grounds are on the map.
– A new look: the game has its own fonts, lighter task cards, rounded reply buttons, and one clean menu style.
– Warmer nights in the house, softer surfaces (wood grain, fabric, plaster), and cherry blossoms on campus.
– More life: new idles, and in the story they cheer, wave, throw a peace sign, pout with hands on hips, or scratch their head when they’re shy.
– Dialogue blips: each person has their own voice as they talk (under Sounds).
– Tasks are easier to read: who it’s with, when you can do it, what to do and where. Napping in your bed passes the time.
– Memories: the massage, the Sketchbook, After Hours, The Drive and Sienna’s dream can be replayed from your phone.
– Send Feedback in the pause menu and on the main menu copies your game info for a bug report.
Polished since the playtests
– Every girl has her detailed skin and soft shading again, in every outfit.
– The party’s music plays from the speaker (louder close by, muffled through walls); press [E] on it for the next song.
– People walk more naturally: real steps at a normal pace, easing into where they stop.
– In a hurry? Hold Shift to walk a third faster.
– In first-person scenes your own head and hair no longer get in the way.
– Up close (dancing, intimate scenes) the lines show as subtitles instead of floating beside her.
– Lots of small fixes: hair no longer flips when you look back at someone, people fade out instead of popping away after a talk, and much more.
Coming next
v0.4.86, the polish update, is on Patreon now and comes to itch.io on Sunday, 15 November: people move like people (planted feet, real turns, natural starts and stops), HD surfaces, a rebuilt campus, new options (field of view, invert Y, head bob, Dark and Light themes), smoother dreams, and hide-the-UI with [F].
After that, v0.4.88: things to do between tasks (hanging out, chores, letting time pass, random encounters, the first dates), then the story picks up again in v0.4.9.

A lot of this came from your feedback on 0.4.7, here, on Patreon and on Discord. Thank you, keep it coming!
It runs much better
If 0.4.7 ran at 15-30 fps for you, try this one.
– A quarter of the video memory: textures are compressed now, so the game needs about 0.6 GB of graphics memory instead of 2.5 GB. Cards with 2-4 GB no longer run out, which was a big part of the low frame rates.
– Less work for the graphics card: only lamps you can actually see cast shadows, and rooms hidden behind walls aren’t drawn any more.
– A new Graphics column in Options: Low / Medium / High / Custom, plus Shadows, Anti-aliasing (Off, FXAA, SMAA, MSAA 2x/4x), Resolution scale (sharpened with FSR), Post-processing and Textures (Full / Half / Quarter).
– VSync is off by default, and there’s a Frame limit (30 / 60 / 120 / 144 / your screen / none).
– The first time you start the game, it picks a Graphics level for your card.
Still slow? Try Shadows on Low first, then a lower Resolution scale.
People move like people
– New standing animations: people shift their weight, cross their arms, put a hand on a hip, fidget, instead of holding one stiff pose.
– While someone talks to them they listen (nods, head tilts, glances), and while they talk, their hands make the point.
– Turning on the spot takes real steps, and hair no longer whips round when someone turns.
– Calmer conversations: nobody bobs back and forth on every line.
– Arms hang relaxed, and the walk no longer bends a knee backwards.
– Whatever you hold in a scene stays in your hand instead of floating next to it.
Save slots
– Six save slots, each with a picture of where you were, the day in the game and when you saved.
– An Autosave every morning.
– Your 0.4.7 save is in slot 1.
Memories
– A new phone app: replay scenes you’ve already had, any time. Maya’s dream is the first; more join it in later updates. Nothing in a replay changes your story.
Scenes
– A Dream (Maya): a surprise added. Go see for yourself.
– Evening Exhaustion: the massage has real movement now (she breathes, rolls her shoulders, sinks back into your hands), with a new ending.
– The Drive: the lipstick moment reworked, and the glovebox hand-off no longer goes through Elena.
– Grocery Run: the shopping and the till reworked. Elena’s line no longer hangs on screen while you shop, and when Dana walks in you turn to see her before she speaks.
– Kitchen Standoff: Maya’s arm no longer twists into a knot.
– Cover Story: Elena looks at you while she asks, and Sienna walks out afterwards.
– Sneaking Out: the front door actually swings open as Sienna leaves.
– The Man of the House: Marcus is described once he walks into view, not while he’s still behind the wall.
– Hands and arms no longer pass through bodies in Night Shift, Cover Story, The Tutor, The Photo and Sneaking Out.
Hidden scenes are fairer
– Maya’s dream no longer hangs on a single choice in The Tutor: get close enough to her afterwards and it still comes.
– While a hidden scene can still happen, that character’s card in the Tasks app gives you a hint.
Life at home
– Elena, Maya and Sienna each shower a few times a week. The door’s locked, and you can hear the water from outside.
– On Wednesdays at noon Sienna locks herself in her room. On Friday nights Elena sits up alone on the couch.
– Maya’s and Sienna’s bedroom doors are locked from the moment you arrive.
Looks
– The house is lived in: every room has its own things now (shoes in the hall, Elena’s novel by her bed, Maya’s records, darts in the garage, a bike outside), and the downstairs bathroom has a glass shower.
– Faces match the rest of the skin (they used to look paler and yellower, most of all on Maya).
– Softer daylight: the sun no longer washes pale skin and blonde hair out to white.
– A real sky: clouds by day, dusk in the evening, stars at night.
– Elena’s hair no longer pokes through her top.
– Couple scenes tell you about their second camera: press [V] to change view.
Fixes
– You could give your own clothes away as a gift and get locked out of campus for good. Only things you bought can be gifts now, and if you gave your clothes or laptop away in 0.4.7, loading your save gives them back.
– Loading a save while a scene was playing (the taxi ride, a conversation) let that scene carry on over your save. Fixed.
– Following Elena into her bedroom after the tour could lock you in with her. Fixed.
– Setting up your laptop before the tour left you unable to go to bed. Fixed, and stuck saves sort themselves out.
– E on someone then Escape left you with no mouse cursor. Fixed.
– Clicking in the pause menu during a conversation could skip a line or pick a reply. Fixed.
– Flickering text above Marcus and flickering replies fixed; skin no longer shows through pants when someone walks.
– Maya and Sienna no longer sit inside each other on the couch, and at night everyone’s in bed.
Also new
– What’s New and a Discord button on the main menu.
– New music: a quiet piano for each time of day, and the taxi has its radio on.
Russian translation: the 0.4.7 translation won’t install on 0.4.75. An update is on its way.
Coming in 0.4.8 (Patreon a week early): new story for Elena, Maya and Sienna, Dana’s and Luna’s first stories, Common Grounds on the map, Sienna’s house party, a second dream scene, and more Memories.

WARNING: !!!SPOILERS!!!
Maya’s first intimate scene
Get close to Maya while you tutor her, and she might find her way into your dreams that night. A Dream is the game’s first sexual scene: fully animated, in a soft, pink, dreamlike light, with its own sounds. You’ll find it by
going to bed at night after The Tutor… if the two of you got close enough.
It’s the first of many. Every main character’s story is building toward scenes like this one.
It was a fun (and difficult) experience. But I feel like it was a good stepping stone personally to evolve this game to what I think it can become.
New story
Maya
– Kitchen Standoff: the last of the coffee, a yogurt she guards like a state secret, and a 9 a.m. lecture she’s late for.
– Lecture Blues: a midterm in two weeks, and she understands nothing.
– The Tutor: study night on the edge of her bed, books everywhere, and a moment that gets a little too close.
– The Photo: a faked photo of Maya is going around every group chat on campus. Find her by the vending machines.
Sienna
– Sneaking Out: come down for a glass of water late at night and catch her at the front door, club dress on, heels in hand.
– Night Shift: drop by Oakhaven Fuel on her evening shift. A regular called Dale won’t leave her alone.
– Cover Story: the morning after, Elena wants to know where Sienna was. Do you cover for her?
Elena now has everyday things to say between tasks, and all her scenes were re-animated and re-timed.
New faces
– Luna: Maya’s classmate. Purple streaks, black lace, and the A-line lob you voted for on Patreon. You meet her in The Photo.
– Dana: Elena’s best friend, now with her own look. You run into her at the store in Grocery Run.
– Dale: a gas station regular who doesn’t know when to leave. You’ll see him in Night Shift. (No model yet)
Dana and Luna get their own stories starting in 0.4.8. Their “Coming soon” cards are already in your Tasks app.
Changed from the last build
– Grocery Run: Elena hands you a list. Find the milk, the coffee and the tuna onigiri in the store, bring them back to her, and then Dana shows up. No more walking up to Elena and having it all happen at once. (Still needs polishing)
– Sneaking Out: Sienna is already at the front door when you come down the stairs, instead of appearing once the scene starts.
– Small Repair and Night Shift: Elena and Sienna are already waiting where the scene happens.
– The opening: Maya’s greeting at the door is smoother. She steps out from behind the door frame properly.
– Talking to people: people look at whoever is speaking, hands are calmer while they talk, and nobody snaps across the room when a scene ends. (Don’t quote me on this either)
– Hundreds of smaller animation fixes, from playtesting and from an automatic check of every scene.
New places
(Most places have bad surroundings and indications on how to get back home, just walk back from where you came and aim at the void/wall)
– Oakhaven College: the campus hallway, lockers and vending machines, and the lecture hall. Closed at night.
– Oakhaven Fuel: the gas station on Route 9 where Sienna works. Open all night.
Both are on the travel map behind the front door. The map now shows who is where, with each person’s contact picture, so you can see where Elena or Maya is before you go looking.
The house has a week now
– Everyone follows a weekly timetable: classes, work shifts, errands, naps, the couch, the garage. Elena goes out shopping twice a week, Sienna works evenings and graveyard shifts, and Maya has campus days.
– Everyone showers a few times a week, one at a time, and the bathroom door says “Occupied” while they do.
– Outfits follow what people are doing: Sienna’s gas station uniform at work, her club dress going out, Maya in her school clothes on campus.
– Some tasks only happen on certain days of the week. The Tasks app tells you which.
Clothes and the wardrobe
– Clothes are items in your bag. You start with your casual clothes and a set of Oakhaven College school clothes.
– The wardrobe in your room lets you pick what to wear.
– Campus won’t let you in unless you’re in your school clothes.
Looks and sound
– Moonlit nights: after dark the house turns a soft moonlit blue.
– Mood colours: tender scenes turn warm and rosy, sad ones go grey and cold.
– A soundtrack: two everyday tracks while you play, and a new piece under the sad moments. (Still waiting for more since the ones I have now doesn’t fit everywhere.)
– A new player body, a little taller, with every shared scene re-animated for it.
– New outfits: school uniforms for Maya and Luna, Sienna’s club dress and work uniform.
Known issues
– Sienna leaves through the front door on a fade-out: the front door can’t swing open yet.
– Maya can look a bit washed out under the campus hallway lights.
– Elena’s hair can poke through her top.
