History unfolds in the present.
The story takes place between 550 and 570 BCE in ancient Iran, during a time when Cyrus ruled only a small region in the southwest of the land. Through successive wars of conquest, he succeeded in expanding his dominion and building the greatest and most powerful empire the world had ever known.
